2nd XI Captain: Grant Sheen
The 2023 season will be a season of change for the 2nd XI. After 7 great seasons Sam has decided to stand down and it is my honour to take over the team. I know I speak for everyone within the squad when I say what a fantastic job Sam has done over the years.
But now it is time to move forward and take on the challenges that we will face in Division 4 of the new Kent League structure. Looking at the division there are some strong teams in there and we will face some tough opponents but I am very confident we have more than enough to challenge for the top spot and promotion to Division 3.
My job as I see it is two-fold. Firstly I want to bring as much youth through and playing regularly in the 2nd XL. I want to be able to offer as much advice as possible and help them learn and progress their games so that they are ready for the 1st XL once they get the call.
Secondly, as a team I want to install a winning mentality from the start. As a 2nd XI we need to be playing at the best level we can so I am mindful that we need to move through the divisions as quickly as possible. It is my job to find the right balance between promoting the young players and using the experience we also have to achieve the goals that we set ourselves.
It is a great time to be playing at Hayes, the club is in a great place. It is time now for the 2nd XI to give everybody something to be proud of.
I can’t wait to get started…..
