Hayes 1st XI v St Lawrence & Highland Court

Skipper Alex Blake Prepares for the Toss

Hayes 1st XI secured a commanding 9-wicket victory over St Lawrence & Highland Court CC on Saturday, 10 May 2025, in the Kent Cricket League Premier Division.

Opting to field first, Hayes bowled out their opponents for 159 in 46.4 overs, before comfortably chasing down the target in just 27.5 overs.

Bureaucracy led to our overseas, Aaron Burrage, having to delay his arrival until the afternoon before the match – he also coached on Friday evening before settling down in the Askew Mansion.  Hardly the best preparation – but what a performance he put in!

Bowling first change, he belied his tiredness and bowled 10 overs, taking 3 for 28.

Will MacVicar in Fine Form

Will MacVicar was the pick of the bowlers, his 9 overs going for a miserly 25 runs and he took 4 wickets to herald a great start to the season for the bowling attack – Alfie Peck, Fin Baker and Finn Bryan also chipping in with a wicket each.

St Lawrence finishing with 159 all out in the 47th over.

Not content with his 3 wickets, Aaron opened the batting, and he gave a glimpse of what we are in store for this season with a terrific knock of 70, with a strike rate of 110.  This broke the back of the run chase and with Finn Bryan – fresh from a winter in Australia – providing solid back-up, in scoring an unbeaten 59, it was left to Will MacVicar with 18 to help Hayes to a comfortable opening day win.

Aaron is also working with Alex, Will and the GRIT Academy – so if you need some coaching – you know where to go!
