Junior Week 1

Hayes CC Latest News

Junior Cricket Starts

Unfortunately the first week of the season was a bit of washout due to the weather but we did manage to get some games played:

  • The Under 11B (pairs game) lost narrowly to Catford and Cyphers by 5 runs. A great performance from many playing their first game for the club and, unluckily, the ball passing between the stumps but not dislodging the bails meant they didn’t quite get the win.
  • The U13 Girls lost to Bexley in The Forty; Lydia Westmacott and Aanya Rastogi both picked up 2 wickets but we weren’t able to quite chase down the Bexley total.
  • The Under 15A beat Catford and Cyphers (following a washout in the first weekend), with Ronnie Buddin making his maiden 50.
  • The Under 15B lost to Chislehurst and West Kent; a good start from Ewan McMullan with the bat and some spirited bowling wasn’t quite enough to see off the Chislehurst XI.
  • The Under 17 managed to get their first two game played, despite the recent weather, chalking up 1 win; the partnership between Rowan Macdonald-Gay (56) and Jesse Rowson (28) setting Chislehurst too many, in arctic type conditions, last Friday.

Unfortunately, the U13 didn’t manage to beat the rain with both games washed out. Hopefully the weather improves this week and we can complete all junior games.

Upcoming Events

  • In the half term holidays, Dean Wheeler will be running a half term camp at Hayes; please refer to the attached flyer for details
  • On 3rd June (7:30pm start), the club hosts its annual race night; for the first time, we’re hoping to have a “Junior Race”. Please support the club by joining the event (junior members welcome) and sponsoring a horse – the Junior Race will have 8 horses, which can be named for £10, including entry to the “owners enclosure” with the fizz and canapes. Please let me know if you’d like to name a horse.

Finally, please continue to put availability for matches in teamo; teams are selected at the weekend for the following week, based on availability in the app.

Good luck to all those starting A Levels and GCSEs this week,
